(Counter Mapping HKH)
2024, Screenprint, 20 x 30 inches, Nepali traditional lokta paper
A team led by Sue Lim tried to disentangle the complexity of mapping the Hindu Kush Himalaya region after finding out the trans-boundary and geo-political sensitivities that surround it. Sue Lim’s vision was to bring attention to these geo-political issues by abstracting, and “counter-mapping” well-known physical geographies. She collaborated with spatial data scientists, environment researchers, earth science enthusiasts, and geographers to seek possibilities for counter-mapping. The team focuses on natural boundaries like glaciers, ecoregions, airways, and water bodies, embedded in writings relating to the extreme weather we face today in 2024.
