I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as an architect at heart and a Disaster Risk Reduction Professional by passion. My keen interest is in Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM), Nature-Based Solutions in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and Conservation of Cultural Heritage (both tangible and intangible). I also love to use my knowledge of architecture to find pragmatic solutions in Disaster Risk Management. I did my Masters in Disaster Mitigation and Management from the Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation and Management (CoEDMM) at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee). IIT Roorkee is one of the premier institutes of national importance; and CoEDMM boasts of being the country’s first and one of its kind multi-disciplinary Centre working on the technical, scientific, and social science aspects of DRM. Having developed an interest in this particular field, I have continued to gain knowledge through my research and work on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) while continuing my current job as an assistant professor at the Royal School of Architecture, The Assam Royal Global University. Recently I represented India as a Youth Delegate during the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum (an integral part of the 42nd UNESCO General Conference, enabling youth to submit their recommendations and solutions on the “Social Impact of Climate Change and the Need to Achieve an Equitable Climate Transition” to the UNESCO Member States) taking place at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, on 14 and 15 November 2023.
