As a glaciologist with a background in geology, my research activities have been taking me from Polar regions to African and Himalayan mountains. My work has been overarching various topics in bio-geo-environmental and climate change sciences for over fifteen years, using different kinds of approaches at various scales (among which ice drilling campaigns, permafrost surveying, laboratory experimentation, remote sensing and environmental modelling). I also developed and led capacity building and science and technology programmes in various countries or regions abroad.
As an environmental scientist, I am passionate about the evolution of our Earth's landscapes, and have always been fascinated by the relationships between humankind and the environment. I am particularly amazed at how diverse, adaptative and creative humankind evolved throughout time and space.
In Nepal I worked at ICIMOD between 2019 and 2021 as a Senior Glaciologist in the “River Basins and Cryosphere Regional Programme”, and officiated as Cryosphere Group Lead under the Water and Air Theme. Besides contributing to the glacier and snow core cryosphere programme in the region, I developed new research lines focusing on permafrost and its links not only with snow and climatic dynamics, but also with geohazards and risk management at the community level.
