Dr. Md. Atiqur Rahman is serving as a Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. His research activities focus on climate change assessment and modeling, agricultural water management, and environmental management issues related to climate change and water problems of Bangladesh. He earned his bachelor and master’s degrees in Geography and Environmental Studies from Chittagong University. Later he received training on technology for integrated water management from University of Ghent and University of Antwerp, Belgium. He obtained his doctoral degree from Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, PRC. His PhD research was on the assessment of climate change and associated impacts on irrigation demand of dry season rice in Bangladesh. Currently, he is working on the assessment of climate change impacts on different components of the hydrological cycle. He uses both the observed and model data and applies different tools like R-programming, ArcGIS, and GrADS in his work. UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) parallel to his contributing areas are- Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities; Goal 13: Climate action; and Goal 15: Life on land. Prof. Rahman is in charge of the Climate Change and Disaster Resilience Lab at the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. He has a notable number of journal articles, book chapters and technical reports published in different national and international journals, and organizations. Prof. Rahman has supervised 22 master’s thesis works. He teaches Advanced Research Methodology, Hydrology, Agro-climatology, and Geographic Data Science courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
