Rajee Tamrakar is currently pursuing her Master's degree in the Department of Geography and Environmental Resources at Southern Illinois University, where she also serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Her research focus lies in the realm of disaster risk reduction, mitigation, and management, as well as climate change adaptation, with a particular interest in enhancing the resilience of vulnerable communities. Prior to her graduate studies, Rajee worked as a Research and Program Associate at NAXA, contributing to the development of the Anticipatory Action Tool (DASTAA) aimed at facilitating pro active informed decision-making. She also played role in formulating metrics and criteria for household-level risk assessments in rural Nepal, aiding local governments and humanitarian agencies in evidence-based decision-making for disaster preparedness and recovery programs. She was also a fellow for the 2023 cohort of the Risk and Resilience Dat/Artathon, where she leveraged data and art to enhance resilience and risk communication. Currently, Rajee is conducting research centered on identifying the factors influencing the success or failure of managed retreat initiatives along the Mississippi River, utilizing case studies to inform her analysis and contribute to the field of flood risk reduction strategies.
