Dr. Sweata Sijapati is a registered Environmental Engineering with almost 10 years of experience in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and its advocacy in Nepal. She holds a Doctoral of engineering in Disaster Mitigation and Management studies with specializing in atmospheric climate studies. Currently she is involved with GHI as National Coordinator for Nepal based in Kathmandu. Dr. Sijapati has a rich history of collaborating with diverse institutions, including National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA), UN Humanitarian clusters, development partners, and actors in disaster risk reduction, response, and recovery in support to make a significant difference to the ways in which residents, government, and the international community take decisions to manage multi-hazards and systemic risks in Nepal. Her expertise extends to post-earthquake reconstruction and recovery efforts, particularly in the aftermath of the 2015 Gorkha earthquake where she contributed in developing a recovery strategy that comprehensively identified needs, gaps, vulnerabilities, and resources to ensure an overall response that is coherent, effective through strategic direction, technical advice, and information management. Furthermore, she has actively collaborated with marginalized communities and Informal Settlements in Nepal, taking the lead on initiatives dedicated to promoting safe drinking water and sanitation programs in Nepal
