Lian hails from a small town in Manipur and is currently working on mammals in the socio-ecological production landscape of Darjeeling-Sikkim Himalaya. He is passionately driven to become a part of action-based interdisciplinary research projects studying human-nature linkages, interactions, and their impacts on one another. He is currently registered as a PhD Scholar at the Forest Research (deemed to be) University, Dehradun and based at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun as his Research Centre. His PhD focuses on mammal communities across different farming systems in Darjeeling-Sikkim Himalaya studying their occupancy, resource use, behavioral adaptation of mammals and perceptions of local communities towards wildlife in the human-dominated landscape. He is also interested in studying the effect of climate change on mammal distribution with respect to future climate scenarios. He enjoys playing football in his free time, reading novels, birding on weekends and long rides on his motorbike. He also likes to fiddle with packages on R-Studio and listening to bat sounds on a heterodyne detector and identifying bat echolocation from recorded calls.
