The International Expert Dialogue on Mountains, People, and Climate was held May 22-23 2024 in Kathmandu, Nepal hosted by the Government of Nepal Ministry of Forests and the Environment. This event aimed to strengthen, coordinate, and prioritise mountain-based actions in the context of climate change and encourage mountain countries and agencies to collaborate on UNFCCC mountain work programs and mandates. Governments from the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region were in attendance along with representatives from key development agencies, the UN, and leading researchers in the field of climate change in mountain environments. A small cohort from the UR Field Lab were invited to attend and had a chance to hear and speak with other experts from across the HKH on the current problems facing the region due to climate change, overexploitation and contamination and the government priorities and actions in response. This event aimed to bring mountains into the forefront of global forums and discourse on climate change and highlight the importance of protecting and prioritising these vital ecosystems.
